Thermostats and controls
An installation that is technically sound but set up wrongly feels exactly as cold to the resident as one that is broken.
- Honeywell, WTH, Wavin
- And whichever make is already on the wall in your block
- After a cold spell
- Only then has the heating curve really been assessed
- In plain language
- The resident gets an explanation of how it works
What we do with the controls for you
In communal heating there is no boiler in the home correcting itself. The controls therefore decide more than in an individual system: when the interface unit calls for heat, for how long, and at what temperature the emitters are fed. With underfloor heating, room-by-room control is added on top, using actuators on the manifold.
At substation level there is weather compensation: the flow temperature follows the outside temperature along a heating curve. Set it too high and heat goes into the branch unnecessarily and comes back too warm. Set it too low and the block will not cope on the coldest day. That is a trade-off, not a setting you get right once and forget.
- The thermostat is mounted above a radiator, in a draught or in direct sun
- The heating curve was raised once to quiet a complaint and never turned back down
- Underfloor heating is on controls meant for radiators, or the other way round
- The actuators on the manifold are swapped: the wrong room heats up
- The resident does not understand the device and leaves it on the highest setting
What goes wrong
That last one is no side issue. Controls nobody understands get switched off or overridden, and then the investment is gone.
What we do
- Advising which controls suit the installation and the resident
- Fitting and commissioning, including wiring and pairing
- Setting the heating curve and operating mode, and reviewing after a cold spell
- Checking actuators and circuits and assigning them to the right room
- Explaining to the resident how it works, in plain language
- Resolving faults on existing control systems
What we work with
We have experience with a wide range of control equipment, including Honeywell, WTH and Wavin. Which brand sits in a block was usually decided at construction; we work with what is on the wall. Where replacement is the question, we look at what suits the installation and the people who have to operate it, not at what is newest.
Our patch runs from The Hague and Rotterdam through to Eindhoven and its surroundings. Our base is Houten. Almost every location in that area is around an hour's drive away, so an engineer can be there quickly even for a fault.
Wondering what this means for your installations?
Tell us what is going on. We will think it through with you, and say so honestly if something is not a fit for us.
